The intelligence of bees is no longer to prove, moreover the community of a hive depends on an elaborate social organization
The individual behavior of the bee is very complex and interesting to study for scientists. From a sophisticated miniature brain, they captivate those interested in artificial intelligence.
Recently, the ability of bees to detect diseases in humans has been recognized
It is not today that humans are interested in bees. They have already participated in hundreds of studies on perception, learning and memory.
An ingenious Portuguese girl, Susanna Soares has developed a device (a kind of glass bubble with compartments) so that bees can deploy their talents to detect diseases. Having a well developed sense of smell, they are able to detect very early diseases in humans. Diseases such as tuberculosis, diabetes, lung cancer, skin cancer or pancreatic cancer.
How is the detection?
Bees are trained to recognize different bio markers associated with certain diseases. To practice detection, the person blows into a compartment of the device developed by Susanna Soares. If bees rush to this place, it is because they recognize the markers of the disease.
How are bees formed?
Their training takes only a few minutes. Endowed with an extraordinary memory they will never forget these smells again and will become very reliable medical collaborators. To motivate them, they are rewarded with a sweet food once their work is done, and then return to the hive.
